Sri Suktam - Rig Veda Hymn with English subtitles - Mahalakshmi - Goddess of Wealth

English Translation by Ramesh Krishnakumar, to the invocative rendering by Shewta Pandit ( Times music Maha Lakshmi chants) The hymns are found in the Rig Vedic khilanis, which are appendixes to the Rig veda and date to pre-Buddhist times. Reciting the Sri Suktam brings prosperity peace, and all-round abundance. It is widely believed that recitation of this powerful stotra bestows unfailing power to the character and personality of those who recite it, to their general well being and to those whom they influence. Mahalakshmi is prosperity, wealth of life. Wealth of life is not limited to money, gold or silver. All forms of happiness, satisfaction, abundance and position in society are due to Mahalakshmi. Any form of superior grandeur, greatness and glory is due to Mahalakshmi. The Sri Sukta is one of the Pancha Suktam (5 Suktams) recited during the 3-hour long Abhishek of Lord Sri Venkateswara, at the famed ancient Hill Shrine of the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Andhra Pradesh, India. The Abhishekam to the main deity is performed every Friday. |

Sri Devi Khadgamala Stotram
|
Sri Devi refers to Shakti, the Divine Mother. Khadga means Sword, Mala means Garland, Stotram means a hymn or song of praise. So the Khadgamala Stotram (hereafter, KS) is a hymn to the Divine Mother, which is said to bestow a garland of upon those who recite it. The KS takes us mentally through the Sri Chakra; ie the mystical geometric representation of the Supreme Goddess. 'SHAKTI' (Devi) is the Sanskrit word denoting power, or energy all Energy, whether we perceive it (from our perspective) as positive or negative. (It is the Shakta belief that there is no positive or negative energy. Love the desire of SHAKTI and SHIVA to Unite as One is the essence of all Creation. That why the KS envisions Devi 'IN COITUS' with Her Consort. This implies that SHAKTI (Energy) is fully animated by SHIVA (Consciousness) She is, in fact, in an eternal state of creative orgasm. That is the cosmic bliss we begin to access through our sadhana (spiritual disciplines). The human sexual impulse is merely a metaphor for the Cosmic Creative Impulse that creates that all we see and do not see. The KS is a very advanced, very powerful recitation from the Srividya school of Shaktism and yet it is totally within the reach of anyone who approaches it in a spirit of serious, sustained devotion and practice. It condenses a long series of complicated rituals into a very simple, easily achievable recitation/meditation that anyone can learn and hugely benefit from. Sri Anandamayi Ma "Hari, Hari": Her Words (1896-1982)

She is ever with us, may you feel Her Darshan... "Sri Anandamoyi Ma (1896 - 1982), also called Anandamayi Ma, was a spiritual teacher (Guru), saint and a mystic from Bengal, and hailed as one of prominent mystics of the 20th century. "Anandamayi Ma was born Nirmala Sundari on 30 April 1896 to Bipinbihari Bhattacharya and Mokshada Sundari Devie in Kheora, Brahmanbaria District, British India, in what is now Bangladesh. [She] experienced the presence of divine power in herself since childhood and went into a trance (Bhava) on hearing kirtans. "At the age of thirteen, in 1908, she was married to Ramani Mohan Chakrabarti of Vikramapura, who she called Bholanath and pitaji. She spent 5 years after her marriage at her brother-in-law's home, where she was in a trance-like state much of the time. It was a celibate marriage because whenever thoughts of sexuality occurred to him, Anandamoyi's body would take on the qualities of death and she would grow faint. "In 1918, they went on to live in Bajitpur, where she became famous for her beauty. Here they stayed till 1924, while Nirmala went deeper into her trances. On the full moon night of August 1922, at midnight, 26-year old Nirmala went through the actions of spiritual initiation - all by herself. Members of Bholanath's family did not respond to his wife's strange behavior as calmly as he did. While his relatives suggested he remarry, he became her first disciple in 1922.
