Built around interviews with survivors still traumatized from viewing the logo after shows like Bewitched or The Monkees, the film brings their stories to life with animation, found footage, and reenactments. Programmer's Notes: It's a pleasure to welcome the truly original Rodney Ascher (www.rodneyascher.com to the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Ascher, who boasts an extensive resume (shorts galore, music videos with Liz Phair and Sparkle Horse, projects with VH1, EA, etc), as well as a colorful exhibition history (SFFMOMA, the Hyperion Tavern, a funeral home in Baltimore, and the UCB theatre), finally brings his experimental and often funny work to a snowy Park City. ',' Ascher's newest opus, is a documentary about the 1964 Screen Gems logo. For those that remember the symbol being quite creepy, this short reminds you that you're not alone harboring such memories. For those that aren't familiar, you'll soon see why this insignia once freaked out kids across America. Thanks to Ascher, perhaps the same will now be true for generations to come. |
